ONE-to-ONE

Stephen Ministers are members of our church who receive special training to provide One-to-One Christian care to people in our congregation and community who are experiencing challenges in life – grief, loneliness, divorce, hospitalization, disability, job loss and many other life difficulties.

Are you interested in BECOMING a Stephen Minister?

  • To train and serve as a Stephen Minister at Compass you must complete a successful volunteer background check with reference check.
  • To apply to become a Stephen Minister, access the application form. You will then be interviewed by leaders of the church’s Stephen Ministry program.
  • Commitments include attending 20 weekly training sessions on Thursdays, 6:30 – 9:00 pm. Upon completion of the training, the Stephen Minister is commissioned by the church and agrees to serve at least two years. Stephen Ministers attend continuing education and supervision meetings the first and third Thursdays of every month, 7:30 – 9:00 pm.

Would you like to RECEIVE Confidential Care from a Stephen Minister?

  • To request a Stephen Minister assignment, submit a Confidential Referral and Agreement to Receive Care form online.
  • The Stephen Ministry Referral Coordinator will contact you to begin the assignment process, which can take a few days.
  • The assigned Stephen Minister will contact you to arrange the first visit. You’ll work together to arrange the weekly face-to-face meetings that will last about one hour. This relationship is confidential and will continue as long as it is needed.
